As part of the V&A’s British Design Season, this exhibition celebrated the work of over 30 of the most pioneering British theatre designers, architects, and artists. The design took on a modular form that allowed the exhibition to flexibly transform and fit within a variety of environments throughout the UK and Europe. The spatial design and curation were an integral part of the thought process in creating these cabinets of curiosities..

How do you exhibit performance design? How can you capture a moment in time?

We focused on how designers created, conceptualised and realised that moment, by exhibiting artefacts, models, costumes, drawings, photographs, sound clips and video. The items and objects that make up the process of creation, or physical items from the performance itself, as art in its own right. Giving significance to the designers skill and artistry, just as much as the final production.

Through project management, this exhibition helped me grasp the reality and implications of creative decision making, how to run and select an appropriate team, manage client expectations and how to operate for and within a strict museum and gallery environment.
